The Greater Cleveland Chamber of Commerce is happy to announce the formation of an educational scholarship for a 2012 graduate of West Johnston High School. The scholarship in the amount of $500 will be for a student who plans to attend Johnston Community College.

The criteria for receiving this scholarship are a minimum 2.5 unweighted GPA, 95% school attendance, no out of school suspensions, drug and alcohol free during high school, a minimum of 10 hours of community service or work experience and financial need as determined by Johnston County Schools.

The Chamber Board hopes that all Chamber members will help raise the funds needed to establish one scholarship this year at West Johnston. They also hope the community will continue to support this initiative so that next year the Chamber can provide scholarships at both West Johnston and Cleveland High Schools.

To make this scholarship a reality, the Chamber needs the help of the community. The Chamber is collecting donated items from Chamber businesses to be raffled at the Strawberry Festival on Saturday, April 28.

The raffle tickets will be sold for $1.00 each or 6 tickets for $5.00. All proceeds will go directly for the funding of this scholarship.

Please contact Marlene Hill if you would like to donate items or a gift certificate that can be raffled. Items will be placed in one of several chamber “gift” baskets or will be raffled individually. The Chamber will recognize your contributions at the Festival and through other marketing efforts.

Cash donations to the scholarship are also welcome. If you have additional questions about the scholarship or this fundraising effort, please contact the Chamber office at 919-773-8448.
