Schools see increased enrollment

Johnston County Schools opened its doors on Thursday, Aug. 25 to 430 more students than they had last year. A total of 31,461 students were enrolled on the first day as compared to 31,031 the 2010-11 school year.

The biggest enrollment changes could be seen in West Johnston, Clayton, and Cleveland High Schools because of the opening of a new class at Cleveland. West Johnston High had 1498 students on the first day and Cleveland High had 911.

Cleveland Elementary had 887 students, Dixon Road had 528 students, McGee’s had 767 students, Polenta had 1072 students and Westview had 863 students. Total Kindergarten enrollment for the County is at 2472 students.

Cleveland Middle and McGee’s Middle both saw their enrollment go up in 2011. Cleveland’s enrollment on the first day of school was 1072 and McGee’s was 774.
