(Benson NC—July 28, 2009) The award-winning West Johnston High School Marching Band began its two week Band Camp last Monday to learn their 2009 fall marching band show. The 200 member band is preparing for a busy fall season which will include performances at their home football games, local parades and competitions, and two out-of-state trips as well to West Chester, Pennsylvania and a return to Indianapolis, Indiana where they will compete at the Bands of America National Marching Band Championships. The West Band did not attend the national championships last year due to their trip to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

“We are very excited about our return to the national championships,” stated Director of Bands M. Lance Britt. “The kids have been working extremely hard this week to prepare for the upcoming season. We take the job of representing our school and community across the nation very seriously” he continued. “I am always amazed at the kids level of dedication and their commitment to excellence even in the first week.” Community members are invited to the 2009 WJHS Band Community Preview Show on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at 7:00 p.m., at West Johnston High School. “We hope the entire community will come out to see what we have learned during camp – everyone is welcome!”
