ServSafe Food Handling Manager’s Certification Course The Johnston County Center of the N.C. Cooperative Extension Service in cooperation with the Johnston Co. Environmental Health Department will offer the ServSafe Food Sanitation Course. This comprehensive course is appropriate for food service managers and supervisory staff in restaurants, hospitals, nursing homes, childcare facilities, and other food-handling establishments. The course will take place at the Ag Center Auditorium located at 2736 NC Hwy 210, on Aug 25, 26, 27, Sept 1, 2, and 3rd from 2 - 5 p.m. on each date (you must be present all 6 days). The exam will be given on Sept. 3 at 2 p.m. after a review. If you would like to register for this course, please call Debbie Stroud at 989-5380. Certification will be provided by the Educational Foundation of the National Restaurant Association and will be based on successful completion of the course and by passing a written examination. A certificate, which can be proudly displayed in your business, will be issued to those receiving certification. Testing is optional, but certification will be issued only to those participants passing the written exam and attending all six sessions (16 hours). In addition, upon certification each participant is then eligible to receive an additional two points added to their sanitation grade by the Environmental Health Department. There is no pushy salesman, nothing to buy and no presentation of any sort, so leave your money at home, because this time you’re leaving with money! Items to bring: anything made of gold, silver, platinum, broken, tangled, necklaces, coins, bracelets, earrings, rings, (if it has a stone, it will be popped out and given back to you). Our Cleveland Wildcats 11U baseball team is going to Cooperstown next summer. How this works as a fundraiser for our team, is the Gold Man will give our team $1 for every ounce sold. This money will come from his pocket not yours. Everything you sell that day will be yours to keep. Nothing will be taken out of your pocket. Turner Memorial celebrates new church development Turner Memorial Baptist Church in Garner, NC, celebrates the next step in their plan to reach our community for Christ. As August concludes, TMBC will have paid in full for the 20 acres of land which will soon be their new home. On Friday, September 11, TMBC plans to have a note burning on the property and would love to have the community join them in this celebration. Hospice of Wake to hold volunteer training Hospice of Wake County will hold a 14-hour training class for new and prospective family support volunteers from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 24 and Oct. 31 at the non-profit agency’s Youngsville office, 60 Wheaton Ave, One Park Place Building, Suite 92 in Youngsville. This training will give volunteer candidates an informative overview of the hospice mission and philosophy and will equip them with the skills and confidence to visit patients in their homes, hospital, nursing home, or assisted living facility. Attendance does not obligate participants to continue as volunteers. During the course of the training, attendees can decide if patient care is the appropriate volunteer opportunity for them. Other opportunities exist for administrative support and fundraising volunteers, speakers bureau volunteers, grief companions, and puppeteers.
