Divorce Care program at Hocutt Memorial Divorce Care for Kids will be held at Hocutt Memorial Baptist Church beginning Jan. 5, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. This night will be our registration night. Class will begin Jan. 12 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. and will continue for 13 weeks. This is a Christ centered support class for children, ages 5 – 12, who are experiencing a separation or divorce with their parents. Through Bible study, crafts, CDs, music, exercise and snacks, the children learn coping skills to help them through this most difficult time. Water Conservation Board Meeting The Johnston Soil and Water Conservation District’s Board of Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010 at the Johnston County Agricultural Building located at 2736 NC Highway 210, Smithfield, NC. The meeting is open to the public. The Moccasin Creek Service District Board has canceled their board meeting scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010.

GCAA Rec Soccer Registrations Open 2010 Spring Rec Soccer Registrations at GCAA are now open at www.gcaasoccer.com. Registrations are for U04 (under age 4) through U15 (under age 15) age groups. Important dates, fees, and details of play for each age group are also on our web site. Registrations end Jan. 16. Practices begin mid February. Games start beginning of March. Don't forget to sign up to volunteer as a coach, assistant coach, or team parent. Remember, the GCAA is a community organization and run by all volunteers. With your help, we will have another successful season. We will offer one walk-in registration date at the Ag Building on the GCAA campus on Saturday, Jan. 9 from 9 a.m. to noon. Greater Cleveland Athletic Association strives to maintain a balance between teaching soccer skills, citizenship, sportsmanship, and healthy competition. We have minimum participation rules in all leagues to ensure that all players become a vital part of the team. GCAA is a member of the NC Youth Soccer Association.

ServSafe Food Handling Manager’s Certification Course The Johnston County Center of the N.C. Cooperative Extension Service in cooperation with the Johnston Co. Environmental Health Department will offer the ServSafe Food Sanitation Course. This comprehensive course is appropriate for food service managers and supervisory staff in restaurants, hospitals, nursing homes, childcare facilities, and other food-handling establishments. The course will take place at the Ag Center Auditorium located at 2736 NC Hwy 210, on Jan. 19, 20, 22, 26, 27 and 28th, 2010 from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. on each date (you must be present on all six days). The exam will be given on Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. after a review. If you would like to register for this course, please call Debbie Stroud at 989-5380. Certification will be provided by the Educational Foundation of the National Restaurant Association and will be based on successful completion of the course and by passing a written examination. A certificate, which can be proudly displayed in your business, will be issued to those receiving certification. Testing is optional, but certification will be issued only to those participants passing the written exam and attending all six sessions (16 hours). In addition, upon certification each participant is then eligible to receive an additional two points added to their sanitation grade by the Environmental Health Department.
