On Thursday, April 29 the Cleveland Middle School softball team traveled to McGee’s Crossroads for the Johnston County American Conference championship game. Each team went into the match-up with identical 8-1 conference records, setting the stage for quite a championship event. The Lady Rams jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Lady Rams would also score three runs in the second inning, which were capped off by an Alliyah Sands triple. As a result of a couple of extra base hits McGee’s would come roaring back in the bottom of the third inning, scoring three runs of their own. The Lady Rams would score two additional runs in the top of the fourth inning, thanks to a triple hit by Kristin Power. Erin Linthicum and Kristin Power had extra base hits in the top of the sixth to give the Lady Rams a 10 - 4 lead. McGee’s refused to go quietly in the bottom of the seventh, scoring three runs before Lady Rams pitcher Kristin Power would strike out three Mustang batters. As a result of the 10 - 7 win, Cleveland softball locked up its ninth Johnston County American Conference title since 1999.

“I am extremely proud of the accomplishments of this team,” said head coach Jason Morris. “These young ladies do the little things correctly, that make a big difference over the course of a ball game.”

The Lady Rams will wind up their season against Clayton.
